Film and TV are not just for human actors. Many animals have graced the stage and screen. Even today most people would know Old Yeller, Toto, and Lassie. There are many famous characters that have been brought to life by animal actors.
Even by today’s standards, one could argue that Lassie is the most famous of all. Lassie was played by multiple dogs throughout her many adventures, but the first was Pal, a male dog. Lassie was so popular that Pal earned more money while filming than some of his human co-stars. One of which was newcomer, Elizabeth Taylor. Some of Pal’s descendants went on to portray the famous character, but Pal was the original and most well known.
